GWU Hospital changes their menu weekly, so here are some healthy tips to consider while ordering food. Additionally, they do provide onsite nutritional information so be sure to use that tool when making food choices - Stay Healthy!

Healthy Tips For Whole foods:

  • Avoid fried items! 

  • Having a sandwich or a burger? Ask for whole wheat 

  • Limit yourself to 1 slice of pizza (1 Slice of cheese pizza is 420 calories!)

  • Try to eat vegetables of the week or get a vegetable plate (up to 4 veggies)

  • Limit yourself to having sushi twice a week because of the high levels of mercury found in raw fish

  • Avoid the fries & chicken fingers, instead look for grilled chicken

  • Make your own salad packed with veggies-choose a light dressing!

  • Avoid the pasta, mashed potatoes and mac&cheese 

  • Get sauce or dressing on the side

  • Drink water with your meal and don't waste calories on high sugar beverages

  • Be careful of the sodium content in soup! It tends to be very high. No need to add extra salt.
